Plated Tungsten Wire

Ultra-Fine Tungsten Wire with Precision Surface Engineering

Precision plated tungsten wire combines the exceptional strength, stiffness, and high-temperature performance of tungsten with application-specific surface properties achieved through advanced reel-to-reel plating.

At Luma Wire Tech, we manufacture ultra-fine tungsten wire from 5 to 200 microns and enhance its performance using precision coatings tailored to demanding applications. Depending on the selected plating material, tungsten wire can be optimized for improved electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, solderability, or long-term contact reliability.

Manufactured in Sweden under ISO-certified processes, our plated tungsten wires support high-performance applications across medical technology, electronics, aerospace, scientific research, defense, and technical textiles.

Why Plate Tungsten Wire?

Pure tungsten offers exceptional mechanical strength, stiffness, density, and thermal stability. Through precision plating, these properties can be combined with additional surface characteristics that enhance performance for specific applications.

Benefits of plated tungsten wire include:

  • Improved electrical conductivity
  • Enhanced corrosion resistance
  • Better wear resistance
  • Excellent solderability
  • Stable electrical contact performance
  • Improved oxidation resistance
  • Tailored surface functionality for demanding environments

By selecting the appropriate plating material, engineers can optimize wire performance without changing the underlying tungsten core.

Typical Applications

lated tungsten wire is widely used in applications where exceptional mechanical performance must be combined with optimized surface characteristics. Typical applications include:

Material Properties

Tungsten doped with potassium (W/K 60ppm)

  • High density – absorbs radiation effectively (radiation shielding – (X-rays, gamma rays, particle accelerators)
  • Tungsten offers high tensile strength, hardness and high wear resistance even at low dimensions  (cutting tools & wear-resistant coatings)
  • Moderate conductivity
  • Good stability and creep resistance
  • The highest melting point of all metals (extreme heat applications)
  • High resistance to oxidation and corrosion
